Using photographs and balloon dialogue, each tells the story of a woman's experience in the context of talking with her friends and health care providers. The topics are conception, visiting the clinic, nutrition, risks, labor, the newborn baby, and breastfeeding. The booklets use simple language, large print, and have Spanish on one side and English on the other. They are well suited to ESOL classes and low-literacy audiences. Each story has pictures and photographs explaining the main messages. There are also keywords in bold print throughout the story that are explained in simple language in the glossary. Each story can be ordered as a classroom resource photonovel or an outreach material photonovel.
